Very handy step with some design flaws
This review is for an AMP Research Bed Step model 75310-10A which is specifically for a late model Ram 1500 with dual exhaust (and maybe for others too?). Quick delivery by Amazon and packaging was secure and not damaged. I installed the step in about 45 minutes. 20 minutes were devoted to removing a three-bolt bumper reinforcing bracket with hard to reach nut heads. The step is a great addition to the truck and is so handy, I think it should be standard equipment.Concerns:1. The instructions were definitely not written by someone who actually ever installed the product. If you have some mechanics skills, however, the installation is pretty straight-forward and it is not easy to make a mistake. The instructions say to use a torque wrench but fail to list the torque settings for three of the five different bolts. Ironically, the two with torque specs are steel on steel but the three bolts with no toque specs are heavy-duty hardened types which are screwed into aluminum castings. Mechanics with experience know to go easy on the torque in such situations, but a do-it-yourselfer may not.2. Not as sturdy as claimed- I read a lot of reviews for this step and large numbers of reviewers rave about how solidly built it is. I agree that the folding arm and its attachment to the truck frame are solid, however, the design of the plastic step and how it attaches to the arm is very weak. Only three small screws threaded into the plastic from below fix the step to the arm. Although the plastic step is designed with a choice of three different positions (left-, centered-, right of the arm), on my dual exhaust truck, placing the step pad to the left was the only choice which did not hit the exhaust tip. This left placement is perfect for stepping into the bed, but the cantilevered plastic step is clearly stressed especially if someone puts the max designed 300 lbs. on it. I anticipate it will someday tear itself away from the wimpy screws and I will have to through-bolt it as it should have been designed in the first place.3. Shame on the AMP designers for not fabricating a new bumper bracket to replace the one that had to be removed to make room for the bed step arm. My chrome bumper is now flimsier and less well supported.

The step RAM forgot to make standard
OK, I love my new Ram. It has a lot of great features, but getting in and out of the rear bed was not one of them. So I took a leap of faith and got this AMP bed step. Installing the step is fairly straight-forward. Be prepared to scrape your knuckles a few times removing a factory corner brace (2 bolts are really hard to get out). But once that's out of the way, the bed step installs fairly quickly. My only suggestion is to mark the bolts better--hard to decipher which bolts you wanted me to use for which step. Now that it is installed, my only gripe is when I flip it back up into the stowed position, it hits the tailpipe with a loud CLANG! sound. I've contacted the manufacturer, but no responses yet. But step is sturdy and makes it a lot easier to get in and out of the back of the truck!

Step was very easy to install
Step was very easy to install. Took about 30 minutes and did not require any altering of the the exhaust. (I have dual exhaust)I can see how the step could be subject to coming loose. Only three screws hold the step on and are just screwed into the plastic step itself. You need to pay special attention to the instructions and only tighten to 5 ft lbs. Over tightening will cause stripping of the screws and allow for failure. This should be standard on all pickup trucks as they are an essential!

EASY install, quality construction, NO-BRAINER!
I have a 2017 RAM 1500 Hemi Express and use the truck for work as well as personal. Being 53 yrs old, I have a tough time with getting in and out of the bed of the truck. This bed step is OUTSTANDING. Build like a tank, easy install, and looks and operates flawlessly. Thanks for making a great product that lives up to the promise and genuinely makes my truck safer and more usable for me.

Don't Be Cheap
I looked at both the Ram version and this AMP Research version - I should have know better...but I went the cheaper alternative. The instructions are worthless. Not sure what 12 year old tried to describe the instructions, but found ye ole YouTube had some guidance. Would recommend using a ratchet type of 10 mm wrench to remove the bumper bracket. The item works as described, but would tell you that the 3 wimpy torx head screws are less than impressive to hold the plastic step onto the bracket. I hope it does not fail down the road. Spend the extra $60 and buy the RAM product. Trust me...

Love this step!
Awesome! Now I don't have to bruise my knees when climbing up on the tailgate to get in the bed of my truck. Install was somewhat difficult on my 2012 RAM 1500 in that the attachment nuts/bolts required finesse and strength with my wrenches. If you are not comfortable getting under your truck with tools then let someone else install this for you. Otherwise, this step is fantastic. Easy to flip down with one foot and very easy to flip back up. I am somewhat concerned about the 300 lb. weight limit but no problems so far. It does not rattle or add noise to my truck, even in rough conditions. This step is quality constructed out of cast white metal, not steel. It works very well and I may add one to the other side of my truck. Would definitely purchase this again.

Great product. I installed this on my 2015 RAM ...
Great product. I installed this on my 2015 RAM 1500 Laramie. After reading a bunch of the reviews on here and elsewhere on line I was actually expecting the installation to be more of a pain in the neck (or other areas) than it actually was. At first I didn't really care for the way it looked on the truck from the back but it gets to be something your used to seeing and the practical utility of the thing makes up for the ugly factor. It moves up and down very easily and makes stepping up onto the tailgate much easier on my arthritic knees. I think it's something that RAM should consider putting on their vehicles as a standard feature in the future.
