My Yahmaha amplifier has flip/squeeze plugs, not the round ones I'm seeing here. Will these work?

I tried it on a flip style and they were too big. The measurement of the plug is 0.15" or 3.85mm at the tip, at the widest 0.20" or 5.3mm. Your flip connectors may be larger than my example, a quick msr of the max gauge wire you can use will answer.

Has anyone tried to solder wires into these connectors for a better connection?

We have personally not done so, but other customers have done so to make their own cables and plugs. So it is quite possible to solder them. Since we have not done so ourselves, I cannot speak on the quality connection, but we have not heard any complaints for those that have. Hope this helps!

Are the outer sleeves/barrel "holding in place" after they're securely tighten? I have similar plugs from other company that "unscrew" themselves

They have not given me any connection problems so far after several months of use, but I went to check them after I saw your question. All the outer sleeves of the plugs inserted into my receiver were loose, a few (not all) going into the wall plates were loose, and none going into any of the speakers were loose. No explanation for how or why this occurred.
