how many times can you use the grains to make the kefir milk?

There is no time limit or number of times you can use the grains provided that you use them constantly and take care of them. If you want to stop using them for a while they will freeze and come back to life when put in milk.

How long will the shipping time last?

Don't really know what u mean. I froze half the rest is still going fine. Has got really thick as time has gone on.

Do we need to throw away the first batch? Activation stage?

I could not get this going at all even though i had kept some grains given to me productive for 2 years. I suggest that you might 'wash' your first few batches with fresh organic milk and throw away all but the grains. On the third time, providing you see the milk thickening up and the grains are growing bigger, then i think it should be safe to use.

Hi. sorry i have watched so many videos that i can't find a conclusive answer to - when is the kefir ready? when it splits or just when it thickens?

The Holy Grail of my kefir is to catch it just before it splits. Must admit I usually miss the optimum moment. It doesn't put us off, we just shake the bottle and use it anyway. When it has split it does taste a little more sour but as we do not drink the kefir but make bircher or bake with it this does not matter It makes wonderful scones!
