Ordering the10 foot length is most convenient and recommended. When idle, I measured +10.16 Volts on RTS & DTR and -10.16 Volts on TXD, with USB connected to a Raspberry Pi 3B+ with +5.16 Volts on the USB port, which is good for a serial connection! Note that the Cisco console cable female jack has its pin numbers "rolled", i.e. pin one is on the left when the clip is upward. This is the reverse of standard EIA/TIA RJ45 pin numbering with the clip downward. Noted that Cisco console cables are incompatible with EIA/TIA-561 Standard For Serial-Over-RJ45 pin function assignment, as one can't do a null-modem connection with those and a rolled-cable (hence Cisco invented their own proprietary pinout).
