Does this shelving unit stand well by itself without getting tippy. I will be pacing in on a carpeted floor.

Hi Nancy. I have placed both of these units on both hardwood flooring and carpets. Each one stood well. If you are thinking of purchasing this product, I strongly suggest using the method I used. Start filling the unit from bottom to top. If you perform this method, you should have no problems. Full units, neither have tipped or wobbled. This was my concern and I was pleasantly surprised to see that this product has proven to be worthy of my expensive collection! Bar the 1 or 2 Star reviews... hope you have the same success... Jus

I like the cabinet a lot. The dimensions are 54" high and 13" wide (outside edge of cabinet measurement). It holds lots of CDs.

what are the total dimensions?

The dimensions are in the advertisement. There are different sizes.

Are the shelves removable?

There are two fixed shelves that divide the unit into three even sections. The rest of the shelves are removable.
