Simple, Wonderful Rack
Excellent little rack was just what we needed. Drove about 700 miles with 2 fully loaded coolers - about 75 to 100 lbs total. Absolutely no issues. Rack extends far enough out that it was easy to access the back of the vehicle for loading/unloading. But it does not extend out too far - so parking in parking lots was not an issue either. It was solid and stable. Not many racks exist for 1.25" trailer hitches. Glad we purchased this one. There are comments from other reviewers that this was difficult to put together and/or that the instructions needed to be modified. I followed the instructions "as is" and it went together just fine, and it didn't take long.

PERFECT!!! Very pleased with this purchase!
I ordered this one because I have a Chevy HHR, and that only has a tongue weight capacity of 200 lbs, and 1000 lbs. total towing capacity, and this one fit the bill with being a class 1, but also being very light, and still having excellent strength and durability. We also chose this one because it had a bit of a rise on it from the hitch. That was important because my car is already a little on the low side (stock from factory that way) and also because of where the tail pipe is. I would recommend bolting some lightweight metal plate to the front and underneath by the tail pipe, as we did, so as to keep the exhaust heat from burning/melting the cargo. We had a vinyl covered tote, and that worked perfectly for us. The plate got very hot, but the tote only got a little warm. Other than that, it's perfect. We had put a very large, heavy duty, rubbermaid plastic tote on it, that fit almost the entire base of this tray completely, which we put inside a heavy duty vinyl cargo tote case (to give the case a frame and stability), and it worked beautifully, and it was very loaded. We took it from S. Florida all the way into the N.W. mountains of Georgia and back for Thanksgiving, through torrential rainstorms and lots of bumpy, pot-holed, bad mountain roads, and it worked perfectly and was very stable. It was also pretty simple to put together and bolt on. I would definitely recommend this hitch tray.

A sturdy enough fuel friendly alternative to roof cargo solutions.
This cargo carrier is a great buy. I bought it to carry a gas can, cooler, and miscellaneous tools or other luggage in a Rubbermaid tote on roadtrips. It has held on great so far, but it does have a few cons I'll cover soon. The rack did, as for many people, arrive slightly damaged. The Curt box it arrived in had a hole in the back about 2" in diameter. The metal mesh on one half of the rack, packaged on the bottom, was bent a bit. It is completely usable, but a disappointment. The rack was fairly straight forward to assemble. It did take a bit of flipping back and forth and holding parts carefully to get all the bolts started, but it is completely do-able for anyone with a 17mm wrench. It does require a 19mm for the odd, yet simply workable hitch pin. Once the basket was together, following advice from other Amazon reviews with all bolts turned with the shaft out and some added reflective stickers for extra visibility, I put it on my car (2015 Honda Fit EX) and it went on easily. The hitch pin, a long bolt you have to tighten to 'wedge' it so it can't rattle, works fine and gives no side to side flop or shake. I also grabbed a $10 hitch tightener to help strengthen things a bit, but I'm not sure it was necessary. It also uses 19mm hardware so I just keep it and use it since I have it. The cargo carrier basket is pretty sturdy and definitely stout enough for what I carry. My hitch is only rated for 200 lbs. tongue weight, which I've not come close to, but I'm not sure I'd go much further than that even if it could. I don't think the carrier could hold the 300 lbs. that it claims, but it definitely holds up as well as I hoped a sub-$100 1-3/4" cargo carrier could. The angled 'shank' does help my height challenged car clear the driveway, and does angle the basket slightly towards the car, but only a couple of degrees at most. If I could offer one suggestion to Curt, it'd be to add some reflective sticker and maybe to package it with some thick cardboard to help protect the mesh floor of the basket. Otherwise, all seems great, and I definitely have no qualms recommending anyone who needs to buy this. Update: It's been a week, it's been about 1,500 miles, and it's been A-OK! Still holding up well, no rattling or annoying flopping. I've only hauled about 50lbs total, if that, at a time on it for those miles, but the rack is still sturdy, and continues to be a good buy.

Good hitch storage platform
Assembled and used this as soon as it was built. I have a Curt hitch and trusted the brand to make a good hitch carrier. Item goes together with good hardware, and carried a lot of items with ease. I purchased a hitch stabilizer so there would be no bounce or sway (play) once installed. Adapter from 1.25 to 2.0 hitch size worked well with no issues. Would have liked a 2 inch hitch of steel vs using the adapter but in the 300# carrier category that's what you get. Great item that allowed for extra cargo transport with zero issues. If you travel dirt roads your cargo will get dirty & dusty. If it rains your stuff will get wet. Use a tarp & tie-downs or purchase a cargo bag to cover your items if this is a concern. Cargo basket could have used more holes for bungee tie-downs & straps. Overall a fantastic carrier and I expect it to last for years with no problems and regular use.

Money well spent.
I purchased this cargo carrier for my 2006 Honda CR-V. I'm glad I did. The carrier cleared both the mounted spare tire and the exhaust flow. I think a carrier without the rise from the hitch receptacle would have hot exhaust blowing on the cargo. On my way east (empty) from California, I stopped at multiple rock collecting sites. Several were rough enough to actually drag the carrier. Yes, I need to do a little sanding and repainting. But the terrain did not cause any structural damage, as I would have experienced by a carrier positioned a few inches lower. Interestingly, in Colorado I accidentally left a small stone unsecured in the carrier. I found it when I reached my destination in Michigan. That tells me it's a smooth ride back there. I loaded the carrier with multiple plastic bins of various sizes, secured with straps. The return trip included midwestern storms, snow closure of I-80 in Wyoming and choking smoke in California's central valley. Everything arrived in the same condition it was packed. Importantly, I noticed no difference in handling or fuel consumption. That's the reason I chose a hitch mounted carrier over one attached to my roof rack. Oh, it probably took me an hour to assemble. I'm sure I could have done it faster if I had done it on a work bench in my shop, instead of working at foot level on my deck. It was pretty easy and straight forward. Reflective tape on the corners is a good suggestion. Update: While considering this purchase, the geometry of the shank was of interest to me. I read what I could, rolled the dice, and got the results I needed. Please check my newly added photos. You'll see the tray sits 11.5 inches back from the center of the hitch pin hole. The rise of the shank is 2 inches. Hope this helps you.

Great way to add cargo capacity to a small car
Liked: sits low enough to allow the hatch to open and shut even when loaded with cargo. Has large holes for straps or a cargo net. Disliked: took longer than I hoped to assemble, but once it's together it feels very solid. Would have been nice to get some reflector stickers in the box for better visibility when parked at night. Overall: it's great for when you just need a bit more cargo space in a smaller vehicle.

Affordable fixer-upper
It arrived super, super early. Was quick to assemble from three big pcs and five little pcs into a rack. The problems are with the shank size. The 1.25" square tube of the main rail is too narrow to provide torsion stiffness, so this thing rolls (twists) very easily. An uneven load will tilt badly. And even worse for those not mechanically inclined, perhaps mine was a fluke, but my adapter piece was not finished. To make it fit required hack sawing a nub from inside the nylon adapter. The instructions showed were absurd, a four inch bolt don't fit sideways through a two inch opening, and a cotter pin can't be put on if there is no hole for bolt to pass through nylon! They may have given me an early revision of the adapter, from a version with no bolt, and no threads on rail. Once made rational by removing nub, it fit snug and smooth into my hitch. Holes in rail were too small for my hitch pin, too hot and late to mess with, I found a good big bolt and bolted it in. It's stiff up and down, the fit is full solid.

Pretty good
A damn good rack. I just wish that the 50mm adapter was a little tougher. Would be better if it were made of metal.
